Model United Nations
Welcome Page
sponsored by the YMCA
Council Rock South has a reputation at the yearly conference as one of the strongest delegations in attendance. Held at the Hershey Conference Center in Lancaster, the conference hosts around 1,500 students from around the region who come dressed up and ready with research to BECOME delegates to the United Nations, if only a model of the real deal. Students begin preparation as early as September as soon as we "get" our nations. There is a civic engagement project that we will be participating at the conference as well. More information to come!
This club is ideal for the student who is interested in politics and debate.
2020/21 Officers:
Ely Cohen, President
Shriya Gohel, Vice President
Tamsyn Adams, Public Relations
Shivani Kumar, Secretary
Jake Schwartz, Treasurer
Advisor: Mrs. Boekamp, Social Studies/German Teacher
NOTE: The 2020/21 conference may take place in a virtual setting. We hope this will decision will be made by early fall. Furthermore, if district guidelines prevent travel then we will look for a virtual option.
Cost: The 2018/19 cost for the room, food, and bus was $395. This year’s cost will be determined by the number of students participating and a few other factors. The deposit is due in early October and final payment at the end of October.
Date: We leave at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3 and return at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 5.
The 2021 Model UN Conference is currently scheduled for January 8th-10th.
Location: Hershey Lodge, Hershey, PA. We stay in the conference center the entire weekend. There is no free time with the exception of a social event on Saturday evening. Rooms are normally quads. Curfew is strictly enforced.
Dress: Expected attire at the Conference is BUSINESS attire. That means coat, tie, dress slacks and dress shoes for boys, and the equivalent for girls (something layered or a dress suit or a sweater and blouse combination that would be on par with a boy's suit).
Requirements:
Pay attention to the dates, forms required, and meeting times. Should interest exceed seat limits, then membership will be on a first-come basis. Be punctual!
Each delegate will be expected to write a "country research paper" early in the school year using three pre-determined topics. This takes some research, but experienced members will help new members with this process. The position paper will be published at the upcoming "Mock" session.
Failure to turn in forms, payments, and country research papers in on a timely basis will disqualify a student from traveling. Unfortunately, we are unable to reimburse payments, so please stay on top of your due dates!

Those interested should join us on Remind @b3d968 and Google Classroom code kq7e31. All communication regarding due dates and meeting times will be sent through these methods.
Please remember all school rules apply when joining these forums.
You will not receive a separate email from the club, so please be sure to register. We look forward to seeing you at our meetings!!
