America Recycles Day
Posted by Ayoshna Verma on 11/15/2011 Hi Everyone, The biggest green event this month is American Recycles day which is on the 15th. I really like this event because it has a plain and simple message. RECYCLE AMERICA!! Here is some more information about the event: Since 1997, communities across the country have come together on November 15 to celebrate America Recycles Day. More than a celebration, America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to the promotion of recycling in the United States. One day to educate and motivate. One day to get our neighbors, friends and community leaders excited about what can be accomplished when we all work together. One day to make recycling bigger and better 365 days a year. Get involved! On the 15th try to recycle at least once in a celebration for this event. If you finish a bottle or don't need a piece of paper throw it into the recycling bins instead of the regular trash cans. Also, the event falls on a Tuesday; therefore, those who are signed up for a room do it on that day!

More dirty laundry news…Clotheslines Make a Comeback!
Eco- minded people who love to save on their utility bills, shun dryer-sheet chemicals on their clothes and adore snuggling into fresh-smelling sun-dried bedding are part of a growing movement that is choosing line drying over machines. According to a recent Residential Energy Consumption Survey by the US Energy Information Administration, clothes dryers consume as much as 6% of total residential household energy in the nation. In the process, an electric dryer emits more than a ton of carbon dioxide each year, gas dryers about half that much. Even line drying just one load of laundry instead of using an electric dryer keeps 3.35 pounds of CO 2 out of the atmosphere. Natural outdoor drying is much easier on fabrics. Just air drying your clothes once in a while will be a huge help to the environment. Also, you don't need to stick them outside; I know everyone is scared someone will grab them. You can air dry them in your own home. Open up a window, stick your clothes on a chair and Presto! In other environmental news, this Thursday is Carfree Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know that no one wants to give up their car but the earth would love you for it! Basically, if we all take the bus on Thursday or carpool we can really reduce the amount of gases going into the air. So, please help us reduce the amount of cars on the road by walking or bicycling to places on Thursday.

International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer
Posted by Ayoshna Verma on 9/15/2011 Hi Everyone, Tomorrow is a very special day for the green community. It is the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer!!! This is a very important issue because we, as many people already know, have a hole in our ozone. This whole problem began when a new chemical called CFC's came out. The chemical didn't harm fabrics, plants, or humans so we began to use it in refrigerators and many more things. However, What the scientist did not realize back in the 20's was that CFC broke down ozone molecules when realized into the atmosphere. Our poor planet! The chemical was banned and the scientist predicted that the layer would start to recover but has been slowed down even further thanks to our pollution. To leave off here is a little helpful green tip of the week. This tip relates to our first meeting. EAC will be decorating cans in which batteries will be collected to recycle! Choose rechargeable batteries, then recycle them when they die. You'd have to use hundreds of single-use batteries to equal the energy you'd get out of one rechargeable battery. Be sure to recycle all batteries to keep harmful metals from entering the environment.

Climate Reality

It talks about the climate crisis that is happening all around the world. Here is a quick blurb from their website that talks about the event.
