Welcome to the Council Rock Chess Team and Club. We welcome players of all levels of ability and commitment for Chess and Friendship: to play, socialize, enjoy, learn, and improve.
In a typical (non-pandemic) year we meet on Tuesday and Thursday of every week in room 222 from 2:30 to 4pm. From late October through March we field a two teams of eight players each to play other schools in the Lower Bucks County Scholastic Chess League (lbcscl.webs.com), which is made up of 24 schools in Bucks, Philadelphia, and Montgomery counties. CRS have been the reigning league champions since March 2018. We also attend external tournaments as a team on school-sponsored trips through the year (including the summer), especially the Pennsylvania State Scholastic Open in March.
Over the Board (OTB) chess is not a safe pandemic activity. So, for the duration, we meet online on Tuesdays (4pm) and Thursdays (5pm) to play in an online Chess arena. Often we also lead in a tutorial lessons or analysis breakouts. The Lower Bucks County Chess League is also playing in a virtual league, and we have two teams fielded there.
Again, players of all levels, including beginners, are welcome. Some attendees become strong competitive tournament players. Some come on Tuesday and Thursday to play and enjoy the company of the friends they have in the club. Please come see if you are interested in playing chess! Contact me at mnauen@crsd.org.
